Werewolf Sports Club – Athlete and Coach Code of Conduct

1. Background

1.1 Your participation as an athlete or coach of WSC is conditional on you agreeing, signing and returning this Code and observing all the terms and conditions detailed in this Code.

1.2 The purpose of this Code is to establish a framework where all athletes and coaches that come under the umbrella of WSC can participate, train and compete in a respectful and enjoyable environment.

2. Definitions

2.1 In this document the words and phrases below have the following meanings:

Athlete means an athlete registered with WSC for coaching services.

Bring WSC into Disrepute means to act in a manner that would lead to the dishonour or discredit of WSC or to affect the performance of yourself or a fellow athlete and/or team or squad member.

Coach means those person/s appointed by WSC as a Coach or Coaches.

Controversy means a state of prolonged public dispute or debate.

Code of Conduct means the Code of Conduct detailed in this Agreement.

Copyright means the Intellectual Property (including but not limited to – printed and published material, events, activities, awards, logos, identity or images) of WSC.

Disrepute means to bring onto the sport, the organisation, individual/s or oneself, damage or loss of reputation, discredit, dishonour, shame of good reputation and name within the sporting or general community.

Equipment means all sporting equipment owned by WSC.

Event means the competition/s for which an Athlete and/or team is selected, any training camps or lead up events and associated travel.

Identity means your likeness, name, voice, signature, reputation, nicknames, media tags, photographs or caricatures or cartoons or anything else that identifies you.

WSC means Werewolf Sports Club Limited.

Uniform means any WSC uniform issued to or purchased by Athlete.

3. Commencement

3.1 This Agreement commences on the date at which WSC receives a signed copy of this Agreement, referred to as the “Commencement Date” and ends at the conclusion of coaching services being provided to the Athlete.

4. Athlete Behaviour Standards and Obligations

4.1 Athlete Obligations: While receiving coaching services or representing WSC, each Athlete will remain under the control and management of WSC. Each Athlete will comply with all reasonable requests of WSC through the Coach during that period.

4.2 In particular, each Athlete will:

      • Participate in all events as directed by the Coach; and
      • Wear the appropriate uniform at all training and coaching sessions, during competition and at other times as directed by the Coach;
      • Avoid making any public statement or supplying any material, photographs, information or comment to any member of the press, radio, television or other media without the prior consent of the Coach; and
      • Undergo any medical or other examination as directed by the Coach for the purpose of verifying eligibility to participate in the competition.

4.3 Athlete Behaviour Standards:
The following is a guide to the behaviour standards required from each Athlete representing WSC:

  • Pride in representing WSC;
  • Positive attitude;
  • Selflessness, support and respect for other Athletes and Coaches; and
  • Sportsmanship, honesty and fairness.

Unacceptable behaviours are:

  • Not giving 100%;
  • Dishonesty;
  • Disrespect of fellow Athletes and Coaches or event officials;
  • Breaching this Code of Conduct;
  • Undermining or affecting the performance of fellow Athletes;
  • Possessing and/or consuming prohibited or illegal substances while representing WSC; and
  • Unsportsmanlike behaviour
  • Each Athlete will also uphold a standard of professional integrity. This will include a willingness to demonstrate in action and in deed:
    • Fairness;
    • Maturity;
    • Personal Integrity;
    • Commitment in achieving the best performance possible; and

5. Parent and Guardian Obligations

5.1 Parents and guardians will:

    • Agree to abide by this Code of Conduct;
    • Remember that children participate in sport for their enjoyment, not the parents;
    • Encourage children to participate and not force them;
    • Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than on winning or losing;
    • Encourage children always to compete according to the rules and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence;
    • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making mistakes or losing a competition;
    • Remember that children learn best by example;
    • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities;
    • Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise; and
    • Show appreciation for coaches, officials and administrators.

5.2 Parents and guardian will abide by the following competition protocols:

      • Parents and family who are present at the venue as spectators, are not permitted to be involved with the Athletes on the court;
      • Parents and family must not communicate directly with an official if they have a query. Any queries as to results, issues or concerns must be communicated to the Coach who will take the matter to the Referee;
      • Refrain from negative discussions of the performance and behaviour of all athletes, coaches and officials;

6. WSC Behaviours and Obligations

6.1 WSC and its Coaches will also uphold a standard of professional integrity and responsibility. This will include a willingness to demonstrate in action and in deed:

    • Providing all Athletes with equal attention and the opportunities they deserve;
    • Ensure the time spent with their Athletes is a learning experience;
    • Be fair, considerate and honest with Athletes;
    • Encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle, refrain from smoking, drinking alcohol and engaging in poor lifestyle choices around Athletes;
    • Display high standards in language, manners, punctuality, preparation and presentation;
    • Display control, courtesy, respect, honesty, dignity and professionalism to all Athletes;
    • Refrain from initiating a relationship with an Athlete and also discourage any attempt by an Athlete to initiate a sexual relationship with them, explaining the ethical basis of the refusal;
    • Refrain from any form of verbal, physical and emotional abuse towards Athletes;
    • Refrain from any form of sexual and racial harassment, racial vilification and harassment on the grounds of disability;
    • Ensure that any physical contact with Athletes is appropriate to the situation and necessary for the player’s skill development; and
    • Be alert to any forms of abuse directed towards Athletes from other sources while in their

6.2 WSC will a provide a safe environment for training and competition by:

      • Adopting appropriate risk management strategies to ensure that the training and/or the competition environment is safe.
      • Ensuring equipment, rules, training, facilities and the environment are safe and appropriate for the age, physical and emotional maturity, experience and ability of the athletes;
      • Showing concern, caution and support towards sick and injured athletes;
      • Being aware of policies particularly around hypoxia, concussion, health and safety and vulnerable children, and adhere to these;
      • Allow further participation in training and competition only when appropriate;
      • Encouraging Athletes to seek medical advice when required;
      • Providing a modified training programme where appropriate; and
      • Maintaining the same interest and support toward sick and injured athletes.

7. Breach and Termination

7.1 Any serious breaches of this Code of Conduct or persistent violations of any aspect of the Code of Conduct, by any Athlete, parent, guardian or Coach may result in a discipline review and one or more of the following outcomes:

    • A written warning;
    • Direct that an Athlete attend counselling to address their behaviour as a condition of their ongoing participation, representation and membership of WSC;
    • Require an apology or order reparation to any affected person;
    • Removal from a team or squad;
    • Financial recompense for any damage caused to property;
    • Immediate termination of all coaching services provided to the Athlete; and
    • Immediate termination or suspension of Coach appointment.

7.2 Upon termination, the Athlete or Coach will immediately return all Equipment and Uniform to WSC.
